Our Story:

Hazel’s Coffee and Roasting Company is a small batch coffee roaster and cafe in St. Joseph, MO. 

Hazel’s was established in 1995 under the name Felix Street Coffee Company.  It was rooted in downtown St. Joseph for nearly 10 years before moving to the corner of Frederick and Woodbine at which time the name changed to Hazel’s Coffee and Tea Company.  

Here many antique appliances and vintage coffee art were collected and nestled the charming little bungalow.  However as we grew over the years we maxed out this space and in March of 2020 a transition took place and the Company sold to Randy and Heather Mitchell.  They purchased the business just days before the Covid-19 pandemic hit our community hard.  Many changes have happened since March 2020.  They had to close off the dining area for about 6 weeks.  But during this time some Exciting Changes were happening behind the scenes.  Hazel’s was relocating!!!!  Yes and to a location with a DRIVE THRU!!!!  Randy and Heather found a new address for Hazel’s and it is only 900 feet from the corner of Woodbine and Frederick. 

Hazel’s officially moved June 30th, 2020 to its new Address 3829 Frederick Avenue, St. Joseph Mo. And welcomed customers beginning at 6am on July 1st!  

Update** On April 27th 2021 Randy and Heather Mitchell Opened a SECOND Location at 310 N 3rd Street. It operates under the name Hazel’s Coffee Bar and offers the same great coffees, an awesome atmosphere as well as beer wine and cocktails in addition to a small food menu.

At Hazel’s we want you to always feel welcomed and to be a comfortable place for gatherings, studying, and game play.  We continue to Roast all our beans in house, make a line of pastries and baked goods for your enjoyment as well as serve all day breakfast and a simple lunch and dinner lineup.  Although we started as a full service coffee shop, we are looking forward to expanding our wholesale coffee supply operation, fundraising opportunities, as well as local partnerships.
